Travel Insurance Update: Conflict in the Middle East

On Saturday, 28 February 2026, we witnessed conflict involving the United States of America, Israel, and Iran. As a result, several airports have closed and numerous flights have been delayed, rerouted, or cancelled, affecting many travellers to and from Mauritius.

As this is an ongoing developing event we urge policy holders and travel agents to keep in direct contact with the relevant airlines and authorities on contingency plans, the latest travel schedules and travel information.

Below some frequently asked questions to support you and answer any concerns you may have.

My trip was cancelled because of the conflict. Am I covered?

We’re sorry that your travel plans have been affected by the conflict. As with most travel insurance providers, Eagle Insurance’s policies include a standard exclusion for losses related to war or war-like events, meaning cancellations and travel changes due to the conflict would generally not be covered.

I am already travelling. What does my cover look like?

We understand this may be a worrying situation while you’re travelling. As with most travel insurance providers, Eagle Insurance’s policies include a standard exclusion for losses related to war or war-like events, meaning cancellations and travel changes resulting from the conflict would generally not be covered.

If hostilities began after your journey started, there is a limited period between 28 February and 6 March (inclusive) during which certain policies may respond, subject to the applicable policy wording. Because every situation is unique, we encourage you to submit a claim so it can be assessed individually in line with the applicable policy wording.

Emergency medical assistance and personal accident benefits may still apply, depending on your policy terms and duration of cover.

My flight or travel route has been disrupted. What should I do?

We’re sorry that your travel plans have been disrupted. If you have not yet departed, we recommend contacting your airline, travel agent, or tour operator first, as they may be able to assist with rebooking or alternative travel arrangements.

They will usually have the most up-to-date information regarding flights and routing changes.

What types of claims may still be covered?

Some claims unrelated to the conflict itself may still be covered, depending on the policy.

These may include:

  • Emergency medical assistance
  • Personal accident benefits
  • Certain inconvenience benefits

Customers are encouraged to review their policy terms and conditions or submit a claim so it can be assessed individually.
